What are the Benefits of Fossil Fuel?
Since time immemorial, man's energy needs have been met by the use of fossil fuel and we still rely heavily on fossil fuels like petroleum and coal for industrial and domestic requirements.
Fossil fuels as the name suggests are derived from the organic remains of prehistoric animals and plants. These fuels are used in the generation of most of the electrical power used around the world. The three main types of fossil fuel include oil, coal and gas; these were formed beneath the surface of the earth from the decomposition of plants and animals.
Even though, several issues have been raised about the generation of greenhouse gases through the use of fossil fuels, the fact remains that at this point in time, fossil fuels are the single largest source of energy available in the world. Fossil fuels are an exhaustible source of energy yet there are several benefits associated with their se such as:
Depending on the type that you are using, fossil fuel is by far the most easily available source of energy. Even though eventually a stupendous increase in consumption will diminish the source, currently new means of extraction and new locations for fossil fuel deposits are being explored.
The ease of usage is another benefit of fossil fuel and its energy can be used through a simple combustion process.
They are cheaper than the other forms of generating energy and can be distributed easily through the vast network of transportation currently available in the world. For instance, it is extremely feasible to transport oil and gas through pipelines to gas and power stations.
Gas can be used very efficiently to generate electricity
Fossil fuel is easily combustible and the process produces a large amount of energy that can be used in locomotion, the generation of hydro electricity and various other forms of energy.
Power stations that use fossil fuel can be built anywhere because it is easy to transport large quantities of fossil fuel from one place to another.
Power stations that use coal can generate a large amount of electricity in a singular location.
Fossil fuel accounts for 85% of the energy consumed in the US and 66% of the energy produced in the world.
They are a very reliable source of energy that can be used to generate power at any time. And factors like environmental and weather conditions do not have a bearing on the production of power through the use of fossil fuels like in alternative forms of energy production like solar panels and windmills.
Since fossil fuels were formed from dead plants and animals they have a high content of carbon bonds which produce a large amount of energy when these fuels are burned.
The Middles East and some African countries have large deposits of fossil fuel particularly crude oil or petroleum. The fossil fuel foundation of Africa is an institution that works towards providing valuable information to the fossil fuel and energy communities in Africa. They help to create a network between the providers and consumers of fossil fuel and petrochemical industry.
The foundation also oversees the hosting of various conferences and other events to facilitate the transfer of information related to the developments in the fossil fuel industry. The foundation is also responsible for providing valuable input towards the development of national strategic policies related to the production of fossil fuels.
