Our Crest

The background to the origin of the Foundation’s crest is as follows:

The main user industries are represented by lightening (electricity), a drop of oil (petrochemicals) and an anvil (carbon) in the metallurgical industry, all set into the lower half of crest.
The lump of burning coal in the top half of the crest represents heat used in the process industry and warmth in the domestic environment,
Rehabilitated land is represented by the green background on the lower half of the crest, and clean air by the colour blue in the top half.
The geological and mining industries are presented by the spade and shovel situated above the crest.
The giraffes were selected to represent the ethos of calm, non-confrontation with an overseeing eye over all that may be encountered.
The lion represents Africa.
