Our Crest

The background to the origin of the Foundation’s crest is as follows:

  • The main user industries are represented by lightening (electricity), a drop of oil (petrochemicals) and an anvil (carbon) in the metallurgical industry, all set into the lower half of crest.
  • The lump of burning coal in the top half of the crest represents heat used in the process industry and warmth in the domestic environment,
  • Rehabilitated land is represented by the green background on the lower half of the crest, and clean air by the colour blue in the top half.
  • The geological and mining industries are presented by the spade and shovel situated above the crest.
  • The giraffes were selected to represent the ethos of calm, non-confrontation with an overseeing eye over all that may be encountered.
  • The lion represents Africa.
