It is with much sadness that the FFF community reports on the passing during October and early November 2018 of two of its prime members. Dr (Hon Prof) Mark van der Riet was an Executive Member of the FFF and Mrs Marianne Curtin was the Executive Manager for the past four years.

Dr Mark van der Riet

Dr Mark van der Riet started working in Eskom in 1988 – 30 years ago – when Eskom initiated its coal combustion research in its then relatively new Rosherville Research and Development Centre. Many members of the FFF community have been privileged to work closely with him throughout all the early years in the Eskom coal combustion research programmes.

Mrs Marianne Curtin

Mrs Marianne Curtin, FFF’s esteemed Financial (and indeed General) FFF Executive Manager, was murdered during November 2018.

Marianne was a lady of impeccable ethics and wide experience, and she had contributed enormously to the operations of the FFF.

Professor Philip Lloyd

Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) Energy Institute researcher, South African Academy of Engineering (SAAE) Fellow, energy expert and passionate educator Professor Philip Lloyd passed away in late August at the age of 81.
He was a previous Trustee and associate of the Fossil Fuel Foundation.
