Bishop Geoff Davies of the SA Faith Communities Environment Institute, also writing in the Sunday Independent Forum 23/11/2008, states that the coal and nuclear power generating technologies belong to the dinosaur age and he “begs Eskom and Government to enter the solar age”. He also pleads for improved energy efficiency which could save the need for two new coal-fired power stations, and he proposes that the transport industry turn green (using electricity powered vehicles) as soon as possible, stating that 55% of emissions in Cape Town come from transport.
